eNews – You deserve some good news

Yesterday, our legal counsel Allysa Tomkins (Gowlings WLG) and Charles Daoust (David | Sauve LLP) filed our Memorandum of Argument. They effectively broadened the scope of the City’s argument against the Ontario Court of Appeal (ONCA) decision in a concise document specifically turning Court attention towards the unjust impact of failed contract enforcement on third parties…

Tough weeks you say?   A very tough start to Stanley Cup hockey for the long-waiting Sens fans out there!   We need to be all in on Saturday night!   One bad week in hockey, but that’s got nothing on the 100 days of Trump wafting across our border and onwards.   The good news is that Canadians are continuing to stand up, showing opposition to the tariffs and the insults with their wallets and spending choices and, perhaps most important, turning out 7.3 million strong at the Advance Polls in our federal election.   And you know how much the Kanata Greenspace Protection Coalition (KGPC) likes to remind you how valuable elections are in support of the work that we are doing.  More on that down the page.

KGPC files Argument with the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC)

Yesterday, our legal counsel Allysa Tomkins (Gowlings WLG) and    Charles Daoust (David | Sauve LLP) filed our Memorandum of Argument in support of the City’s Application for Leave to the SCC filed in March.   The KGPC is again most grateful for a stellar effort by our team on behalf of all our supporters.   They effectively broadened the scope of the City’s argument against the Ontario Court of Appeal (ONCA) decision in a concise (we were limited to a five-page response) and well-written document specifically turning Court attention towards the unjust impact of failed contract enforcement on third parties.   We truly hope this argument resonates with you.  If you appreciate it,  you can send a thank you to our great team!

The ClubLink MOA in response to the city was also filed yesterday.  The city now has 10 days to respond to the SCC by memorandum or letter.   We will make sure you see that when it happens.  And now, we begin the wait to see if the city application for leave is ultimately accepted by the SCC.

Kanata Federal Election – All Candidates Debate April 22, 2025

Once again Kanata owes a nod of appreciation to Neil Thomson, President of the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association (KBCA) and KGPC Board member along with moderator Danielle McGee, member of the Kanata Lakes Community Association (KLCA) for another strong peg in support our big democratic tent.

Check out the recording on our website.  Note the time-stamped index which will take you to specific topics of interest to you including candidate comments on our Kanata Golf Course/ClubLink/Minto/Richcraft issue.    There is a role for our next federal representative in continued opposition to these developers.  Through its National Capital Commission (NCC) land holdings downstream from the Beaver Pond and Kizell Creek, the federal government has a voice and must continue to use it alongside the City of Ottawa in opposition.   You should want to ensure your vote elects a local representative committed to supporting the work of the KGPC on your behalf.   Thank you for voting!

And thank you for your ongoing support of our work to save Kanata’s Greenspace!

Remember, we’re better together!
