eNews – Kanata Golf Club (KGC) Closing Permanently

October 31, 2025
ClubLink notified Kanata Golf Club (KGC) staff this morning that the course will close permanently on Monday, November 3, with no plans to reopen in spring 2026.
This came as a shock to nearly everyone — except, it seems, ClubLink.

ClubLink notified Kanata Golf Club (KGC) staff this morning that the course will close permanently on Monday, November 3, with no plans to reopen in spring 2026.
This came as a shock to nearly everyone — except, it seems, ClubLink. Staff heard the news directly from KGC Manager Brent Deighan, while members are learning by word of mouth. A formal notice to members is expected. The City of Ottawa was also blindsided, leaving Councillor Cathy Curry scrambling to confirm the rumours. The Kanata Greenspace Protection Coalition (KGPC) was not included in ClubLink’s notification either.
So, what exactly is ClubLink’s plan?

  • Has the property been sold to another golf operator?
  • Will the course be left to deteriorate as a tactic to pressure the city and community?

No one knows for sure.
What we do know:

  • The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Ontario Court of Appeal’s ruling allows ClubLink to stop operating a golf course on the property.
  • The City of Ottawa remains opposed to ClubLink’s development proposal because no acceptable stormwater management (SWM) plan has been submitted.

Rest assured, we are following developments closely. In the meantime, our best advice remains –  If you see something on the KGC property, say something.

Send observations or concerns to the KGPC and copy Councillor Cathy Curry at cathy.curry@ottawa.ca.

Legal Developments Beyond the Supreme Court

We continue to work with our legal team to explore every possible remedy to protect Kanata’s greenspace, including those from residents through Town Halls and social media. We’ll share updates and next steps as they emerge.

Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) Hearing – November 26, 2025

A hearing in response to ClubLink’s request for a Final Decision by the OLT is set for Wednesday, November 26, 2025.  The hearing will be virtual, and we’ve requested public access. We’ll share the link as soon as it’s available.

The city must respond to ClubLink’s submission by November 4.  Sylvain Rouleau, Partner at Weir Foulds LLP and our planning law expert, will represent the KGPC and support the City’s position.

And so, this is an unexpected and quick update today.   We hope you can shake off the unhappy news of the loss of our highly valued Kanata Golf Club and turn your heads to something positive – supporting Canada’s Blue Jays tonight!
We’re in this together!  GO JAYS GO!
