eNews – Because of you… we’re still standing strong!

December 23, 2024

Hard to believe that it was this very week six years ago, just as the 2018 Holidays were getting underway that ClubLink, Minto and Richcraft chose to blindside our community with their misguided and selfish plans to develop the Kanata Golf Club lands that ClubLink had legally committed to share with our community.

And here we still stand.  Together.

Another year closes around us.

Together.  For certain, we all care about our Greenspace, knowing the pleasure and safety it provides us every day.  However, it is your unfailing financial support for our campaign of opposition that is indeed singular. Six years and counting.  In fact, through 2024 we have been able to fund the latest chapter of opposition, our support of the City opposition and protection of the 40% Agreement at the Court of Appeal in November without additional fundraising.  This was entirely due to your overwhelming fundraising response to our call in December 2023.   We have paid the entire cost of the appeal and have ‘powder dry’ for our next steps.

Why does that matter?   At the heart of this long, expensive battle in the minds of ClubLink and others is the obvious expectation that our Kanata North community will stop caring.  Let’s face it, a lot of things happen in life over six years that distract and diminish emotions and energy.  They expect that our spirit will faulter and fail.  That volunteers will then tire and quit, or the funding will run dry and force the quit. Either way, that is what happens to 99% of community groups trying to play David in Goliath’s world.  And along the way, ClubLink has not missed opportunities to hasten those possibilities.

And so, bells ringing at this profound milestone are particularly cheerful.   They remind everyone, that we are more committed now than ever to stopping this ClubLink/Minto/Richcraft development.

Let the bells ring!

And in return the KGPC wants to say…

as we continue into 2025, our seventh year, we remain as committed as ever to this epic community campaign.  We will continue our volunteer work to organize and

  • assess and exhaust every reasonable opportunity we can uncover to stop this unfair, high-risk development.
  • expand the bridges we have built with our friends and elected representatives at City Hall, Queen’s Park and other communities fighting similar fights.
  • retain and engage leading legal counsel to chart our course.
  • keep you fully informed on all aspects of this complex file until it is done.

At this special time of year…

we want to send you and your family and friends the warmest wishes for this joyous holiday season.  May you spend some of it enjoying and reflecting on the coolest space around… our Greenspace.

And may it remind each of us of the importance of the important work of connecting with our community to share both compassion and gratitude.

As you reflect on the past year, we hope the spirit of the Holidays bring you peace, happiness, and fulfillment.   And we hope that your 2025 will be filled with promise and possibility and those moments of great joy that truly make life meaningful.

Happy Holidays and wishes for a wonderful start to the New Year from all of us at the Kanata Greenspace Protection Coalition!   Know that we’ll be back with news on the appeal and whatever follows…. as soon as we know it!

Take very good care until then.

Happy Holidays and wonderful health and happiness in 2025!
