The hearing returned to Superior Court last week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Justice Labrosse was animated throughout posing questions and engaging the lawyers in all the parties and, in the end, the two days allotted proved not to be enough time. The second day ended mid-way through the KGPC’s response. It is hoped that the hearing will complete in a virtual format this Thursday or Friday afternoon. At that time, the Coalition will finish its submissions and ClubLink will have the opportunity for final reply. We will send the confirmed time and link out in a quick e-News blast, once it is provided by the Court. We encourage you to tune in.

Who gets your vote in October?
Now is the time to start your reading and analysis if you haven’t already. Undoubtedly, this is a pivotal time for the City of Ottawa. We are assured of a new Mayor and essentially 50% of the Councillors around the table will be novices as well.
As we did last May in the provincial election, we will be reaching out to our three candidates for Councillor and getting their take on our major issue – the protection of urban greenspace. We anticipate sharing their comments with you before the first Advance Vote Day on October 7. In the meantime, here are a few opportunities to begin collecting real information to help you form your opinion.
Ward 4 – Kanata North Councillor – Meet the Candidates September 27
Your Community Associations are organizing a Meet and Greet with our Councillor candidates! This informal event will allow voters to chat one-on-one with the candidates, discuss the issues and understand views. A great opportunity to remind all the candidates of the value of greenspace and why the City must oppose ClubLink.
See you there!
Date: September 27, 2022
Location: John G. Mlacak Centre, 2500 Campeau Drive, Halls A/B/C
Time: 7-9 pm
Will Ottawa’s next Mayor Support Greenspace? Make it happen.
What happens in Kanata North is determined at Ottawa City Hall on Laurier Avenue and the policy that drives those decisions is often driven by the Mayor. Certainly that has been our past experience. The People’s Official Plan (POP) Coalition had a full house (standing room only) out for the Mayoralty Panel Discussion on the Environment at the Kanata Rec Centre on August 30. 11 of the 14 candidates joined that panel discussion that evening. Other events were also held in Barrhaven and Orleans, taking the candidates to venues across Ottawa. Here are the videos capturing each event to give you a sample of what the candidates think about environmental issues… and some other things too!
- Barrhaven Eco-Debate August 16, 2022
- Kanata Eco-Debate August 30, 2022
- Orleans Eco-Debate September, 7 2022
Still to come… the first time in Ottawa, the Mayoral Debate on the Environment Wednesday, September 28. You can head downtown to Centretown United Church to attend in person (reserve here) or watch it live on Rogers TV. The field for this event has been reduced to the top five candidates to allow for a more fulsome debate (not possible with 14 on the stage!) The participants were determined by polling the public attending the previous panel discussions and identifying the candidates from whom they wanted to hear more. It will be hosted by Adrian Harewood.
We will continue to work for you and with you to defeat the ClubLink/Minto/Richcraft proposal. This year’s municipal election is perhaps your best opportunity to ensure we elect the candidates who will ensure the City stays with this fight. Choose wisely.
Please buy your tickets for Tapas and Tunes for Greenspace today. If you cannot attend, please consider a donation. An extra day at the Hearing increases our costs. Help us with a donation below.
We truly hope to see you out on September 27 at the Mlacak Centre. Stop by the KGPC table … let us know how we are doing.
In the meantime, enjoy the wonderful September weather and fingers crossed that we conclude the 40PA hearing next week.
We’re better together!
