eNews – Supreme Court Application for Leave is Complete

May 10, 2025
There have been so many milestones on this long, long road to protect our 40% Agreement and to ensure the city of Ottawa remains in a position to protect its intended beneficiary… our community. They all matter. But this one, it’s the last mile. We can see the finish line.

I know.  There have been so many milestones on this long, long road to protect our 40% Agreement and to ensure the city of Ottawa remains in a position to protect its intended beneficiary… our community.  They all matter.  But this one, it’s the last mile.  We can see the finish line.

Final filings at the Supreme Court (SCC)

Following our last eNews April 26, counsel for the city and the KGPC were informed of ClubLink’s intent to file a response to the KGPC submission with the court.  While outside the normal reply process we ruled out an objection and they filed this short ClubLink response.

On May 5, the expected city response to ClubLink’s reply was filed.  This filing concludes the leave application. While the SCC decision to hear the matter could come as quickly as the summer, it could also take 6 months or so.   And, as said before, should the hearing be granted, we expect it to be scheduled on the 2026 SCC calendar.

Rest assured we will be out to you with any news as it comes available but do expect our next eNews will share and discuss the SCC decision on leave, whenever that is.

What’s Next?

The KGPC has worked to be transparent with our supporters over the past 6 years and we know you understand that Plan A, ensuring the defence of the 40% Agreement has been uphill and without guarantee.  Even at the finish line, the city application may be refused or, a decision made against the city.

We do want you to know that we will not leave a stone unturned in opposition to the ClubLink/Minto/Richcraft development.   And so, over the coming few months we will continue to assess other options going forward.  We will be back to you with our findings.

Kanata Federal Election Results – Sudds Returned

Congratulations to MP Jenna Sudds for a successful campaign and her return to Parliament Hill to represent our great riding of Kanata.   An election like no other, we are very grateful to all the candidates who put their names forward and competed to serve our community at this crucial time.   The KGPC thanks each of them.  We are grateful to Jenna for her longstanding commitment to our cause and the defence of our greenspace.  We also appreciate her campaign commitment to work with the KGPC and the City of Ottawa to continue that defence.   Onwards we go with a full house of elected representatives at all levels of government committed to the protection of our greenspace and our community.  Thank you for voting.
And so, with that, we will wrap up this last spring eNews of 2025 with our very best wishes for a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend.

Remember, we’re always better together!
And we’re always here.   Reach out if you have a question or concern.
